Custom Fields for Real-Time Journeys

Custom Fields for Real-Time Journeys

A Long-Awaited Feature Has Been Released! I have created several post on how to create your own solutions for custom fields in real time marketing, but now Microsoft is finally giving us these features out of the box

The only minor drawback is that these fields are still not available for event registration forms. But hopefully Microsoft will solve that for us shortly as well.

Activate the feature and how to use it on forms

To activate the feature, navigate to Settings and Feature Switches, then scroll down to the Forms section. Activate the «Custom Unmapped Fields.»

This gives you access to a new section of elements on the right-hand menu in the form designer.

You are now ready to drag your unmapped fields onto the form just like any other fields. You can then set your preferred field label, logical name, and other settings.

It is also easy to save your field for reuse later. Click the Save Field button.

Give the field your desired name, and click Save.

To reuse this field later, simply go to the regular Insert Field menu, where you will find a new divider containing all your unmapped custom fields.

It is also easy to create other types of fields, such as option sets.

So how can this be used?

For this demonstration, I have created a simple contact form with two standard fields: Last Name and Email, and two unmapped fields: Custom Unmapped Field and Custom Unmapped Option Set.

You can view the value submissions on the form submission.

Creating a new journey for the submission of the form allows you to use the field to branch your journey:

  1. Add an attribute branch.
  2. Add the condition and choose Trigger > Marketing Form Submitted > Form Submission Field Snapshot.
  3. Change the operator value from Equals to Contains.
  4. Enter the condition in this format: Field Value Localized Name: Value. For example, «customoptionset: 1» for option 1, or «customoptionset: 2» for option 2.

You are now able to use the unmapped fields to take different routes in your journey.
